Hempfield recCenter's 2019 TRI for Life triathlon will take place on Sunday, April 28. The annual sprint triathlon event will feature a 300-meter indoor swim, a 16-mile bike ride with rolling hills, and a 3-mile run on a relatively flat course.
The top male and female finishers will receive cash prizes, and awards will also be given to the top three age-group finishers and top three relay finishers. Individuals and relay teams that sign up before Sunday, March 31, will receive discounted entry fees. Registration is through http://www.active.com.
Individuals who are interested in attempting a triathlon but would like guidance with training and conditioning are invited to take part in the rec center's PEAK TRI Training Sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. Attendees will receive customized training and hands-on coaching and will also learn about proven race strategies. The center will also offer Triathlon Basics for Kids for 7- to 12-year-olds on Thursdays, March 7 to 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. The classes will introduce youths to the sport and prepare them for the Youth TRI for Fun on Saturday, April 27. The Youth TRI for Fun is a fun, noncompetitive event for children in three age groups: 7 and 8, 9 and 10, and 11 and 12. Each group will complete the course with varying distances for each leg. Proceeds from both events support Hempfield recCenter's Everyone Belongs financial assistance program, providing wellness opportunities and other services for those who cannot otherwise afford them. Hempfield recCenter is located at 950 Church St., Landisville.
