Students, Teacher Honored

Martin Meylin Middle School has named its Students of the Month, Pioneer Pride Students of the Month, and Teacher of the Month for December.

The Students of the Month were selected by creative arts teachers for displaying the various characteristics of respect. Criteria included displaying recognition of human worth and dignity, the rights of others, and individual differences; acceptance of rules, laws, and authority; justice; fairness; acceptance; tolerance; and working out differences logically and reasonably to resolve conflicts peacefully.

The Students of the Month, the subjects in which they were honored, and the nominating teachers include the following: Grace Burdge, fitness and wellness, Mr. Heeter; Lana Dyer, band, Mr. Royer; Jessica Ford, technology education, Mr. Neumann; Ashley Hess, physical education, Mrs. Buch; Jason Long, physical education, Mr. Weiss; Aubrey Magagna, art, Mr. Leone; Myles McQueen, Spanish, Mrs. Mier; Peter Mecouch, German, Mr. Mencarini; Terry Stinson, music, Mr. Gibson; Maggie Swarr, family consumer science, Mrs. Irwin; and Benjamin Wert, health, Mrs. Bianchi.

The faculty and administration recognized three Pioneer Pride Students of the Month for consistently displaying school spirit and good citizenship. Riley Moore, Maggie Swarr, and Justin White were the honorees.

Martin Meylin's Teacher of the Month for December was special education teacher Jennifer Gilman. She was recognized for going above and beyond every day to provide opportunities for the students in her life skills classroom. She has taught in Lampeter-Strasburg School District since 2003. Gilman and her students display their handmade crafts each year at the IU 13 holiday and spring bazaars.
