YWCA York's junior board recently announced Jordan Willis and Karin Swartz as recipients of the inaugural Young Women's Leadership Award at a recent annual fundraiser for the organization.
The junior board created YWCA York's Young Women's Leadership Award to celebrate its members, past and present, whose leadership advanced the mission of YWCA York. Swartz and Willis were recognized for raising $30,000 to help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking by bringing V-Day to York.
V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers present annual benefit performances of a theatrical production to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities.
The purpose of the junior board is to foster the participation of young women, up to age 35, in the organization's events and programs, to encourage others to become involved in their work, and to share ideas and perspectives with YWCA York's board of directors and staff.
New members are recruited every year through an open nomination process. Nominations are now open for the 2019-20 junior board. For more information, readers may contact Heather Maneval at hmaneval@ywcayork.org or call 717-845-2631, ext. 221.
