Organization Founder Visits School

Resurrection Catholic School received a visit from Gerald Ganse, creator of the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF), on Jan. 29. Following a ceremony to thank school supporters, Ganse met the students who had been awarded tuition assistance grants from CEF, specifically from the Dr. Albert J. and Mrs. Ave Marie (Butz) Schreder and Family Fund. Grant recipients included Antonio Garcia, Niang Kim, Emilly Settle, and May Settle.

Kim, a seventh-grade student, was born in Myanmar. Her first language is Tedim, and her second language is Burmese. She said she likes Resurrection because it provides daily opportunities for her to learn about God in a safe environment.

A firm belief in the value of Catholic education led Ganse, a retired pharmacist, to form CEF to help students like Kim. The four-year-old independent nonprofit raises money for tuition assistance. Tuition was not a barrier to education for Ganse, who attended St. Joseph School and Lancaster Catholic High School in the '50s and '60s, and he wants to help provide the same opportunity for today's children in Lancaster.
