Maple Sugaring Demonstrations Set

Naturalists from the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will demonstrate the maple sugaring process from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays, Feb. 24 and March 3. The demonstrations will take place at the Sugar Shack, located in Pavilion 11, 733 Williamson Road, Lancaster, in Lancaster County Central Park.

Attendees will see trees being tapped, sap boiled to syrup, and candy made from syrup. Maple sugar candy will be available to sample, and maple syrup products produced by a farm in Tioga County will be available to purchase. The drop-in event will also include hourlong tours focused on the maple syrup-making process.

The program is free, and no registration is necessary. Donations will be accepted and will go toward environmental education programs.

Private groups may also schedule their own programs between Friday, Feb. 22, and Friday, March 8. Saturday, March 2, is set aside for private groups. To schedule a program, readers may contact Tammy Agesen at 717-299-8219 or AgesenT@co.lancaster.pa.us.
