Lititz Garden Club will present a program on Thursday, March 7, at 6:45 p.m. at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz.
Phil Williams will talk about permaculture, which got its start more than 35 years ago in Australia. This environmentally conscious science is founded on three main ethical principles: care of the earth, care of people and return of surplus.
Williams is a permaculture consultant from North Lebanon Township in Lebanon County. He formerly owned a landscaping business in Virginia. His initial interest in organic farming was sparked when he and his wife, Denise, bought their 5.6-acre tract of land in Pennsylvania in 2009. There they constructed an energy-efficient home with a solar panel system on the roof and other environment-friendly features. Phil also took permaculture design courses and began implementing his newfound knowledge on the property.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is preferred, but not required. To register, readers may email lititzgardenclub@gmail.com.
