Peace United Church of Christ (UCC), 37 E. Swartzville Road, Denver, has posted its Lenten schedule.
An Ash Wednesday service will take place on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature the theme "What We Are Clinging to Instead of the Cross." The speaker will be the Rev. Brad Haws from St. John's UCC in Denver. There will be Communion by intinction, and ashes will be applied to those who want them. Refreshments will follow the service.
The Lenten Project, titled "Planting Seeds of Love," is focused on caring for seniors in the congregation and also for the UCC Homes Benevolent Fund. The congregation will be invited to assist with a "Noisy Offering" every Sunday during Lent.
Orders for peanut butter eggs will be accepted through the month of March, with a set fee for 16 eggs. Orders may be picked up on Sunday, April 7.
On Saturday, April 13, an Easter egg hunt will take place at 10 a.m., rain or shine. All children from newborns through high-schoolers are invited to participate. There will be a light lunch.
Services have been set for Holy Week, as well. A Palm Sunday service with distribution of palms will be held on April 14. A Maundy Thursday service on April 18 at 7:30 p.m. will include Communion. A Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m. on April 19 will feature a reading from the Scriptures of the persecution and crucification of Jesus; the sanctuary will be dark.
On Easter Sunday, April 21, a service with Communion will be held outside, weather permitting, at 7 a.m. A traditional service with Communion and special music will take place at 10:30 a.m.
