Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Avon Grove Seniors

The Avon Grove Seniors will meet on Wednesdays, Feb. 27 and March 6, at 10 a.m. at the West Grove Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 139 W. Evergreen St., West Grove.

Glenn Hough will present a music program on Feb. 27. Bingo will be featured on March 6.

Dance Party

Youths with special needs are invited to enjoy an "Everybody In" dance party that will be held at Grove United Methodist Church, 490 W. Boot Road, West Chester, on Saturday, March 2, from 10 to 11 a.m.

After the event on Feb. 23, upcoming dances will be held on March 9 and 30; April 6 and 20; and May 11. It is not necessary to register for the events, and participants can attend as many dance parties as they choose.

All attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian who must stay with them during the hourlong session. Siblings are welcome. No snacks will be provided, so dancers are encouraged to bring bottled water or other beverages.

"The Art Of Tea"

The Parkesburg Library, 105 West St., Parkesburg, will present "The Art of Tea With Ms. B" on Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m. Attendees will enjoy tea and learn its art with Ms. B from a local tea room. The free program will focus on the etiquette of serving and drinking tea.

GriefShare

GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a loved one, will meet on Tuesday, March 5 (and every Tuesday through May 14), from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg. The meetings are facilitated by Paul and Twila Ranck.

The topic will be "The Journey of Grief Part 1." Attendees will learn practical tips to make it through the difficult days ahead and discover things they can do to make their grief journey more bearable. There will be special breakout sessions offered for teenagers age 14 and over.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, March 5, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.

Open House

Our Lady of Consolation Early Learning Center is hosting an open house on Thursday, March 7, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Schneider Parish Center, 2995 Cemetery Road, Parkesburg. The preschool is open to children ages 2 to 5.

ACE Meeting

ACE (Advocating, Collaborating, Educating) Anti-Human Trafficking Alliance of Oxford will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at the Oxford Public Library, 48 S. Second St., Oxford.

Guest speaker Kristen Yaros from Trades of Hope will introduce the community to the organization, which creates job for women in poverty in more than 16 different countries. The women create a line of fashion accessories and home decor, allowing them to rise out of poverty and avoid becoming vulnerable to human traffickers.

Fish Fry

A fish fry fundraiser will be held on Friday, March 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Schneider Parish Center, 2995 Cemetery Road, Parkesburg. The event is a fundraiser for Our Lady of Consolation's Life Teen youth group, which will take part in a mission trip to Boston.

Breakfast

Shiloh Presbyterian Church (SPC) will hold a pancake and omelet breakfast on Saturday, March 9, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the SPC Community Outreach Center, 42 S. Fifth St., Oxford. Tickets may be purchased at the door, with separate costs set for adults and for children ages 4 to 11. Children age 3 and under may eat for free.

The breakfast has been scheduled for the second Saturday of every other month. Additional items on the menu vary and may include French toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits, potatoes, sausage gravy, juice, and coffee.

Church Service

St. John's Episcopal Church Compass, 1520 W. King's Highway, Gap, located at the intersection of routes 10 and 340, will hold a Taize Candlelight Service on Saturday, March 9, at 7 p.m. The calming and reflective candlelight service will include music and prayers.

Program For Caregivers

COBYS Family Services has slated a free program for kinship caregivers, who are those raising a relative's child, such as a grandchild or a niece or nephew.

The monthly educational discussion group with other kinship families will feature a different topic at each month's session, as well as the sharing of practical community resources. Topics include Setting Boundaries, Healing From Anger, Emotional Wellness, and more.

The program will be held at Solid Rock Youth Ministries, 34 E. State St., Quarryville, on Mondays, March 11, April 8, May 13, and June 10, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

American Legion

Local veterans are invited to attend meetings of American Legion Charles F. Moran Post 475, which meets on the fourth Monday of every month at 11 a.m. at Freedom Village at Brandywine, 15 Freedom Blvd., Coatesville. The next scheduled meeting will be on March 25.

The post provides a free buffet lunch following the meeting, but donations are accepted.

Membership is open to veterans of various conflicts, including World War II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War and the Gulf War, as well as those currently serving in the War on Terror. Those who join are asked to pay a yearly membership fee.
