Eleven Solanco High School students and one Swift Middle School student have won a total of 57 awards in the 2019 Scholastic Art Awards and Lancaster County Young Artists Awards. The students will be honored during an opening reception and awards celebration on Friday, March 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lancaster Museum of Art, 135 N. Lime St., Lancaster. Admission is free, and all are invited to meet the artists.
The top award winners were Olivia Stoltzfus with 16 accolades, Tyler Allen with 13 awards, Tyson Grant with 12 awards, Chase Charles with four awards, Matthew Mentz with four awards, and Mackenzie Roth with two awards. Among these honorees, Olivia and Tyson each earned a Scholastic Art American Vision Award. Scholastic Art Portfolio Awards were presented to the following students: Tyler, Gold; Tyson, Gold and Honorable Mention; and Olivia, Silver and Honorable Mention. In addition, Mackenzie, Chase, Tyson, Tyler, Matthew and Olivia have earned the honor of having their works forwarded to New York for national adjudication.
Awards were also presented to the following students: Emma Curtis and Grace Kreider, Gold in the Lancaster County Young Artists Awards; Kara McClune, Silver in the Scholastic Art Awards; Chesley Ledesma, Triniti Erisman, and Swift Middle School student Alaina Brown, Honorable Mention in the Lancaster County Young Artists Awards.
Scholastic Art Award-winning pieces will be exhibited at the Demuth Museum, 120 E. King St., Lancaster, and artworks recognized in the Lancaster County Young Artists Awards will be on display at the Lancaster Museum of Art. Exhibition hours at both museums are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The exhibitions will continue through Sunday, April 14. The displays are free and open to the public.
