Library Sets Programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its upcoming programming. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are free and require preregistration. Readers are encouraged to register online at http://www.mslibrary.org or by calling the library at 717-653-1510. More information is available by calling or visiting the library.

The annual Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, sponsored by the Norlanco-Rheems Kiwanis, will take place on Saturday, March 2. Green eggs and ham will be served for breakfast, and regular eggs and ham will also be available, as well as beverages and sweet treats. Miss Jan will read "Green Eggs and Ham" and other Seuss favorites, and there will be an opportunity to have pictures taken with the Cat in the Hat character, played by Patrick Gerlach. Tickets for the event are on sale at the library's circulation desk.

Read With Kirby will offer struggling readers an opportunity to practice reading aloud to Kirby, a Westie and certified therapy dog. Kirby will be available on Mondays at 6 p.m. Individuals should call Miss Jan to register.

Family Story Time will be offered at the library on Wednesday and Thursday, March 13 and 14, at 10:30 a.m. It will also take place on Monday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the East Donegal Township Municipal Building, 190 Rock Point Road, Maytown, and on Monday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the former First National Bank building, 100 Market St., Marietta. Families may enjoy stories, songs, and a craft based on a theme of the week.

Sing, Shake, and Sway Story Time, set for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, March 6 and 20, and Thursdays, March 7 and 21, will encourage children to interact and move to songs and stories.

During Preschool Super Science on Tuesday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m., Miss Jan will lead themed science experiments or activities relating to the lives of 3- to 6-year-olds.

A six-session Homeschool Spanish Class for children age 7 and up, focusing on basic conversational Spanish, will meet every Tuesday from March 12 to April 16 at 2 p.m. There will be a fun fiesta for class "graduates" on the last day.

Lego Club, for people of all ages, will take place at 6 p.m. on March 12. Legos will be provided.

STEM Club, for children age 7 and up, will be offered at 6 p.m. on Thursdays, March 14 and 28. Participants will explore the world of germs and find out what their spit contains.

Fun Family Book Bingo has been set for 6 p.m. on March 19. Attendees are asked to bring a light snack to share.

A Celebrate Spring Family Program has been set for Saturday, March 23, at 6 p.m. Families may drop in to the library for a spring-themed program with crafts and activities.

Sensory Story Time will be offered on Tuesday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. The program is geared toward children ages 3 to 5 who are differently abled, who may be on the autism spectrum, who have sensory processing issues, or who feel overwhelmed by noises or crowds. A time of monitored social play will be available afterward. Registration is required, and space is limited.

Sing and Sign Story Time, during which basic American Sign Language is incorporated, will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, March 27 and 28.

The next few gatherings of Dark Order Teen Anime will give teenagers age 13 and up an opportunity to learn the role-playing game Legend of the 5 Rings. The next session will take place on Saturday, March 16, at 6 p.m.

A game night for adults will take place on March 4 at 6 p.m. Attendees may bring games.

"Good Credit and How to Get It," the second of three financial literacy workshops, will be offered on March 6 at 6 p.m. Facilitated by Tabor Community Services, the workshop will highlight how to request and read a credit report and how to correct errors, as well as ways to establish and maintain a good credit rating. Registration is required.

Closely Knit, a group for avid knitters or those who aspire to knit, will meet at 1 p.m. on Mondays, March 11 and 25. Attendees may knit or crochet individual projects, and no registration is necessary.

The Friends group will meet on March 11 at 6:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.

Needle Felting Friends, led by local soft sculpture artist Victoria Hans, will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 16. The club is open to anyone age 16 and up who wants to learn the art of needle felting, as well as other needle felters who would like to share ideas or work in a social setting. Basic materials will be provided for beginners.

The book discussion group focused on the classics will discuss "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway on Monday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m.; the group's April selection will be "Slaughterhouse-Five" by Kurt Vonnegut. The Lit Lovers book discussion group will discuss "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck on Tuesday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m.; the group's April selection will be "The Radium Girls" by Kate Moore.

"Loans - When to Save, When to Borrow, When to Buy," the third of three financial literacy workshops, will take place on March 18 at 6 p.m. Facilitated by Tabor Community Services, the workshop is designed to be an introduction to the different types of loans, such as vehicle, education, mortgage, consumer, and more. Attendees will learn to search for reputable loans, as well as gain an understanding of the steps needed to apply for loans. Registration is required.

Make-It Monday on Monday, March 25, will focus on cross-stitch. During the program, for people age 14 and up, Deb Gepfer will teach beginners basic cross-stitching, and participants will create a bookmark after choosing from a few different patterns and thread colors. All materials will be provided, and the program is free. Those who already know how to cross-stitch but need a refresher are also welcome to attend. Space is limited, and registration is required by calling the library.

All writers, whether recreational or professional, are welcome to work on their current projects or write to prompts by facilitator Ingrid Andersen during the Writers' Circle at 6 p.m. on March 25.
