Columbia Public Library, 24 S. Sixth St., has posted its programs and activities. In the case of inclement weather, readers may view the library's Facebook page or check WGAL for updates on closings. The Food for Fines program will continue at the library through Sunday, March 31. Donations are applicable toward Columbia fines only and are not to be used as payment for lost items. People without fines are welcome to donate as well.
The Young Adult Book Clubs will meet on Wednesday, March 6. The middle school club will meet at 1:50 p.m. and will discuss "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare. The high school club will gather at 2:45 p.m. and will focus on "Long Way Down" by Jason Reynolds.
Project Plarn Mats will meet on Thursdays, March 7, 21, and 28, at 1 p.m., with no class on March 14. Those with no knitting or crochet experience are welcome, and no materials are needed. The class project will be turning used grocery bags into "plarn" (plastic yarn) to be used to crochet mats to benefit homeless people. Plastic grocery bags are needed. Cathy will teachparticipants how to straighten, fold, cut and connect the plastic bags to make plarn balls for the crocheters to use.
Monday, March 11, is a day off for local students, so Lancaster County Parks and Recreation staff will present a program at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 12. In celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday in March, the program will be "The Science of Seuss," featuring the book "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?" To accompany the reading of this Seuss classic, presenters will introduce some animal sounds and why they are made. There will also be a game of Animal Sounds Jeopardy.
Preschool Pals will meet for stories and fun on Mondays, March 18 and 25, at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 2 to 5 and their adult caregivers are welcome for stories and an easy craft. No sign-up is needed; adults must stay with their children.
The Hooked on Crochet class will be held on Tuesday, March 19, with instruction starting at 7 p.m. People of all skill levels are welcome.
Family Film Night will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 6 p.m. "Ralph Breaks the Internet" will be shown in the conference room.
The Prime Timers, for people age 50 and up, will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27. Anne Kempsell will lead the program "Mythbusters: Health Care's Best-Kept Secret," about hospice services. Light refreshments will be provided.
Monthly community programs held the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. will begin again on April 1. The first two programs will invite input from the community.
