Registration is open for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten early learning initiative, which encourages families to build daily reading habits with their young children. Community members may sign up for the program during regular operating hours.
The Friends' Puzzle Swap will take place on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees may swap one of their puzzles for one of the gently used jigsaw puzzles at the event, or they may purchase a puzzle for a nominal fee. Any remaining puzzles will be sold during the used book sale the next weekend.
The Friends' semiannual book sale will take place on Friday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hellam Township Public Works building, located across the street from the library. In addition to gently used books, jigsaw puzzles will be available for purchase. Freshly baked cookies and cakes donated by community members will be available. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Kreutz Creek Library.
Babies and Toddlers Story Times with Miss Lisa, for children from birth through 3 years old, will be offered on Mondays through May 6, with sessions at 10 and 10:45 a.m. Registration is required, and interested families may contact the library at 717-252-4080.
Preschool Story Times with Miss Felicia, for children ages 3 to 5, will meet on Mondays and Fridays through May 10. Sessions will take place on Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required, and interested families may call the library.
Wee Build Wednesdays are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for children ages 3 to 5. Wee Build STEM materials will be available. April sessions are set for April 10 and 24.
Two programs will be geared to tweens ages 9 to 12. On Tuesday, April 9, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., The Danger Club will be held. Tweens may join Miss Jennifer for a new adventure every month. The Tween Library Squad will meet on Tuesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., and attendees will shape library programming for their age group.
Programs for teenagers ages 13 to 18 will be offered. Every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., Teen Time will allow teenagers to gather for hangout time and conversation at the library. All teenagers are welcome to participate in the program, which will be held on April 4, 11, 18 and 25. Teen After Hours will take place on Friday, April 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Teenagers may hang out, chat, and play games after the library closes.
The Friends of Kreutz Creek Library Branch Support Group will meet on April 24 at 5:30 p.m. The group welcomes fresh ideas and suggestions for activities to be held throughout the year.
The Knitters and Crocheters group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. People of all skill levels are welcome, and group members will help others learn to knit or crochet. Attendees should bring needles and yarn. Knitters and crocheters may bring their current projects to work on and projects for show-and-tell. The group will meet from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on April 2 and 16.
The tech guru will not visit the library in April. The tech support program is undergoing changes, and more information and scheduling will be posted later in the spring.
The Green Thumb Garden Club will host a program on April 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Master Gardener Iona Bradley will present "Ins and Outs of Composting and Mulch," focusing on the basics of these processes and how they benefit garden plants and the community. The Garden Club offers a program on the second Thursday of each month.
The Lego Builders Club for children age 6 and up will be held on April 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
