York College, 441 Country Club Road, York, will host "From Exiled to Homecoming: The Story of a Deported Veteran" on Thursday, April 4, in Weinstock Lecture Hall, Willman Business Center. The event will be presented by the college's Arthur J. Glatfelter Institute for Public Policy. The event is free and open to the public.
The film "Exiled" will be shown at 6 p.m., followed by a talk at 6:30 p.m. featuring attorney Craig Shagin and Hector Barajas-Varela, a former paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division who was deported for 14 years after serving honorably in the U.S. military. Barajas-Varela was given a pardon by the governor of California and is now a U.S. citizen. He advocates for other veterans who have been or are being deported, and he is the founder of Deported Veterans Support House, a nonprofit in Mexico, to advocate for and support veterans who are being deported.
