Hannah Adler, a junior at Susquehannock High School (SHS), recognized the need for the Theatre Department at SHS to raise additional funds to support high school theater productions. With its budget, the department must cover costumes, set-build, licensing fees, production costs, and more.
Adler organized a Paint Night fundraiser on March 9. A fee was charged for each of the participants to paint a scene from "The Wizard of Oz," with instruction from Adler. The event was tied in to the spring production of "The Wizard of Oz." A total of 78 people participated.
With New Freedom Art donating the supplies and students donating refreshments, 100 percent of the proceeds were donated to support the Theatre Department at SHS. With additional donations at the free snack and beverage area, a total of $834 was raised.
Adler is secretary of the Theatre Department's International Thespian Society Troupe 4088. She was recently elected as a state thespian officer for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Educational Theatre Association, home of Pennsylvania Thespians.
The production of "The Wizard of Oz" will take place on Friday, April 5, through Sunday, April 7. For ticket information, readers may visit http://www.susquehannocktheatre.com.
