GSV Sets Support Groups, Concert

Garden Spot Village (GSV), 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will offer several support groups and a concert in April. Support groups are free and open to the public.

The Living With Loss Support Group will meet on Wednesday, April 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Board Room. Herb Landis will provide input before showing the film "Death Valley: A Love Story," which illustrates the true story of Carol Emerson and how she navigated the grief of losing her partner. Landis will also lead a discussion following the film. Landis has practiced psychotherapy for more than 25 years. The Living With Loss group is for persons who have experienced the death of a spouse or other family member. The group's focus is support and education. The Alzheimer's Association and Garden Spot Village co-sponsor a support group for family caregivers of persons with dementia, which will meet on Monday, April 8, at 10 a.m. in the Concord Room. Joan Groh of Hospice and Community Care will present "Caring for the Hospice Patient With a Dementia Diagnosis." Groh will share unique challenges and symptoms of hospice patients with a dementia diagnosis, as well as the resources that Hospice and Community Care provides to dementia patients and their caregivers and loved ones. Upon advance request, free respite care in Adult Day Services is available during this group meeting time if currently enrolled. The Essential Tremor Support Group will meet on Thursday, April 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Board Room. Elaine Ostrum will present "Grieving What I've Lost/Celebrating What I Still Have: Adjusting to Difficult Diagnoses." She will discuss how to navigate adjustment issues that come with difficult diagnoses and share tips on the pathway of finding peace with a new normal. Individuals with essential tremors and their families and friends are invited. This quarterly support group is affiliated with the International Essential Tremor Foundation. The Low Vision Support Group will meet on April 11 at 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Optometrist Jonathan Andrews will present "Dry Eye Syndrome." The Low Vision Support Group is designed to provide information and support to enhance independence for persons with any kind of visual losses. The Parkinson's Support Group will meet on Monday, April 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. The group will separate caregivers and people with Parkinson's for an open, informal time of sharing and support. Free resources from the National Parkinson's Foundation are available at the monthly meetings. The support group is open to all persons with Parkinson's and their caregivers, family and friends. The 2018-19 Saturday Evening Concert Series will conclude with a performance by cellist Richard Amoroso and pianist Asaki Nakagawa on Saturday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in the Garden Spot Village Chapel. Amoroso and Nakagawa perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra. This event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
