Camp Create, which will be overseen by Cavod's Savannah Huyard, will be specifically designed for teenagers and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The camp, which is for those age 13 and up, will run from 4 to 6:30 p.m. each day from Monday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 9. "We will explore the arts (through) dance and music," said Huyard, who noted that in addition to art projects, she might utilize percussion instruments, such as the tambourine, and vocal activities depending on the skills of the students who attend. "We will put together a showcase for the end of the week," she added.
Cavod will also hold a Summer Dance Intensive for intermediate and advanced dancers age 10 through adult. The intensive will be held at Cavod Academy from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, Aug. 12 through 16. "We bring in teachers, both local teachers and teachers from out of state who are really well established, to focus on technique," said Jill Hertzog, creative director of dance for Cavod. "In the morning, classes will focus on ballet and modern (styles), and in the afternoon, specialty classes, like hip-hop, theater, acrobatics, or tap, (will be offered)."
The last 90 minutes of each day will be spent learning repertoire with a guest choreographer. On Friday, Aug. 16, a showcase will be held for parents and friends to see what students learned during the week.
