KCA, Church Set Bazaar, Open House

Keystone Christian Academy (KCA), Asbury United Methodist Church and community partners will hold a spring bazaar and open house, a day of free and low-cost activities along with opportunities to tour the school and the church, on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. KCA and the church are located at 340 E. Market St., York.

The event will feature an Easter egg hunt, displays and demonstrations, carnival-type games and other activities for children. Free balloons and popcorn will be available for the first 200 children.

The Easter egg hunt for children age 12 and under will begin at 9:15 a.m. Puppeteers from the church will present puppet shows at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The William Penn High School varsity football team will offer numerous carnival-type games with prizes donated by local business partners, earning community service medals for 10,000 Acts of Kindness. 10,000 Acts of Kindness is a multicultural, multifaith unity festival to be held on Sunday, June 30, at Penn Park. To be one of 10,000 people seated at the table, a person must perform a recognized act of kindness that benefits others in a tangible way.

Several individuals and organizations will be present on April 13 to educate the community about their work. A team from the York Fire Department will showcase a fire truck, and representatives from the York City Police Department will be on-site, possibly with the McGruff mascot. Woodworker Andrew Morrow will display and discuss various handcrafted products made from assorted hardwoods, and attendees can learn about the various types of wood and how to properly maintain products made from them. Master Gardner Virgil Davis will be on hand to answer questions about spring planting, and various flowers and plants will be for sale. A food stand and bake sale will offer a variety of food items.

KCA, a private Christian school offering education for prekindergartners through ninth-graders is currently enrolling students in prekindergarten through ninth grade for the 2019-20 school year. Families from all backgrounds are welcome; admission is not open only to churchgoing families. Tours of the school and church will be available from 9 a.m. to noon during the event.

The event will be held rain or shine, with most activities taking place indoors if it is raining. A parking lot is behind the church at Reineke Place. Those desiring to participate in the Easter egg hunt should preregister with Kathy Bittner at Kathy.Bittner@kca-york.com or 717-850-0943.
