The Wheatland Chorale will present a concert on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Neffsville (Lancaster), in the sanctuary. The concert is part of the St. Peter's Musical Arts Concert Series.
Since 2012, Eric R. Riley has been the artistic director of the Wheatland Chorale. The group's more than 50 singers, all volunteers, are selected through audition, and they travel from throughout southeastern Pennsylvania to attend rehearsals in Lancaster. The Chorale is named after the Wheatland Hills neighborhood in Lancaster where founding director Robert J. Upton lived when the group was formed.
The Wheatland Chorale performs music from all choral periods. The group has performed throughout central Pennsylvania, as well as at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City; at the National Cathedral and the White House in Washington, D.C.; and during tours in Austria, Germany, Italy, and England. The choir has also performed at the Mount Gretna Music Festival and on a local radio station.
The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received during intermission. Ten percent of the offering will go to Music for Everyone, a nonprofit that raises awareness and resources to strengthen music education in local schools.
