Teams from three Penn Manor elementary schools earned first-place trophies in the Math Bowl, a competition involving students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades from all seven district elementary schools.
A team from Hambright Elementary earned the first-place trophy for fourth grade. Eshleman took the fifth-grade crown, and Central Manor was the sixth-grade champion. The runners-up were Letort, fourth place; Pequea, fifth place; and Eshleman, sixth place.
The competition, which included about 75 participants, tested students' general math ability and skills in solving multi-step and word problems and computations with and without calculators. Participants are the top math students from each school.
In the fourth-grade competition, Hambright students Wesley Groff, Anupama Neopaney, Miles Fetter, and Micah Cruz took first place. The Letort Elementary team of Eliza Myer, Camden Beakes, Elijah Hurst, and Emily Simpson placed second.
In the fifth-grade competition, Seth Barrett, Jett Kroesen, Joelle Kroesen, and David Kirkley of Eshleman placed first. Pequea Elementary's Jenna Railing, Rayn Andreychek, Grant Bradburn, and Natasha Wee took second place. In the sixth-grade competition, Jordan Chen, Zoe Thomas, Cooper Dawkins, and Vincent Keefer of Central Manor won first place, and the team of Andrew Gallion, Evan Lee, Jack Hightower, and Trinity Mowery of Eshleman won second place.
