Hempfield High School's German students have received the following awards and recognitions.
Brandon Goromaru, 10th grade, won the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG)/Pädagogischer Austauschdienst Study Trip Award. He was selected through an interview process to represent the Central Pennsylvania AATG Chapter and competed at the national level. He is one of 40 students nationwide who was chosen to receive this honor and will travel to Germany this summer.
Ginger Matchett, 11th grade, was accepted into the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) program and has received a full scholarship to spend her senior year living and attending school in Germany. This program is geared toward students interested in world politics, and participants will have unique opportunities to meet with German government officials and tour government buildings, including the Embassy and the Bundestag. Annually, 200 students nationwide are selected for this program. As a service project, Matchett will give presentations to students prior to leaving and after her return.
Jack Thomas, 11th grade, will spend his senior year living and attending school in Germany as a recipient of an AFS (formerly the American Field Service) Speedwell Study Abroad Merit Scholarship. The scholarship is offered annually to up to 20 high school and gap-year students in central Pennsylvania.
