At its annual parent workshop on April 9, the Title 1 Reading Department introduced the elementary Solanco Reads! Program. According to Solanco Title 1 director Sandy Haines, the goal is to continue the program each summer for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
The Title 1 department surveyed students to ask them what topics they would like to read about, who their favorite authors are, and if there are any book series they would like to read. For the program, Title 1 reading specialists have chosen books they hope will be fun and engaging. The community has shows support of the Solanco Reads! Program by providing prizes such as a free pass to the SECA pool, a coupon for free ice cream, and more.
Parents interested in having their child participate in Solanco Reads! must attend a brief informational session. Sessions will be held at each Solanco elementary school. If a parent is unable to attend a training session at their child's school, they may attend one at a different elementary school. To register, parents may call their school's office.
