Library Posts Ongoing Offerings

The Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, invites the public to explore its ongoing programs.

In partnership with the Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County, the library reminds the community that it has a telescope for loan to the public. The warmer months are an ideal time to check out the telescope and enjoy the night sky.

The telescope is an Orion Star Blast 4.5-inch astronomical telescope, along with a zoom eye piece and supportive material. The telescope has a wooden base rather than tripod legs. It is of manageable size, but has a relatively large optical tube, meaning that the moon and deep sky objects will show more detail than one could see with a standard beginner's telescope. It also has a large field of view that allows objects to stay in the in the eyepiece longer.

Patrons age 18 and older may borrow the telescope kit for a one-week period using their library card. To arrange a time for pickup and instructions on use, readers may contact Diane Guscott at 717-626-2255 or dguscott@lititzlibrary.org.

The library also has many clubs and organizations that patrons may join. These book clubs, hobby clubs, and discussion groups meet regularly at the library and welcome new participants as space permits.

The book clubs include Great Books, which reads the classics; the History Book Club, which reads nonfiction historical books; and Literary Travelers, which reads contemporary fiction books by international writers. Hobby clubs include a bring-your-own-board Scrabble club, a painting club, and a knitting club. In addition, three discussion groups meet at the library. Those with an interest in foreign affairs may participate in Great Decisions, a nonpartisan discussion group. The Jane Austen Society of Lancaster County meets at the library to discuss all thing Austen, and the Genealogy Research Group offers meetings four times per year for those with an interest in researching their family tree.

For more information, readers may call the library at the aforementioned phone number or stop by to pick up a Passions and Pastimes brochure.
