Library Posts May Schedule

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its upcoming programming. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are free and require preregistration. Readers are encouraged to register at http://www.mslibrary.org or by calling the library at 717-653-1510. More information is available by calling or visiting the library.

The library will be closed on Saturday, May 25, and Monday, May 27.

The Friends of Milanof-Schock Library are holding their annual Community Yard Sale at the library on Saturday, May 4 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a variety of private vendors, and the Friends will have a food stand with beverages, hot food, and baked goods for purchase.

A plant exchange will also be held on May 4. Preregistration of all plants being brought for the exchange is due by Thursday, May 2. Plants must be donated in non-returnable containers and must be properly identified. Non-invasive plants only will be accepted. On May 4, participants can drop off plants between 8 and 9 a.m. and can pick up new plants between 9 and 11 a.m.

Read With Kirby will offer struggling readers an opportunity to practice reading aloud to Kirby, a Westie and certified therapy dog. Kirby will be available on Mondays at 6 p.m. Individuals should call Miss Jan to register.

Sing, Shake, and Sway Story Time is set for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, May 1 and 15, and Thursdays, May 2 and 16. It will encourage children to interact and move to songs and stories.

The votes from April will decide which Star Wars movie will be shown at the library on May 4 at 10 a.m. Popcorn will be served.

Free Comic Book Day will be celebrated on May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m: The public is invited to stop by for a complimentary comic book courtesy of a local store. .

Family Story Time will be offered on Monday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the East Donegal Township Municipal Building, 190 Rock Point Road, Maytown. Families may enjoy stories, songs, and a craft based on a theme of the week. Family Story Time will also be held at the library on Wednesday, May 8, and Thursday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m. and in Marietta at the old First National Bank, 100 W. Market St., on Monday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m.

Lego Club, for people of all ages, will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. Legos will be provided.

Preschool Super Science will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. Miss Jan will lead themed science experiments or activities relating to the lives of 3- to 6-year-olds.

A homeschool art class, at which students will have the opportunity to create a piece of art using inspiration from a featured artist and media style, will meet on Tuesday, May 21, at 2 p.m. The class is for children age 7 and up.

Fun Family Book Bingo has been set for 6 p.m. on May 21. Attendees are asked to bring a light snack to share.

Sing and Sign Story Time, during which basic American Sign Language is incorporated, will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 23.

Families are invited to help Miss Jan decorate the library's parade float on Friday, May 24, from 4 p.m. until finished. They are also invited to sign up to ride the float through town on Saturday, May 25.

Sensory Story Time will be offered on Tuesday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m. The program is geared toward children ages 3 to 5 who are differently abled, who may be on the autism spectrum, who have sensory processing issues, or who feel overwhelmed by noises or crowds. A time of monitored social play will be available afterward. Registration is required, and space is limited.

The next few gatherings of Dark Order Teen Anime will give teenagers age 13 and up an opportunity to learn the role-playing game Legend of the 5 Rings. The next session will take place on May 1 at 6 p.m.

"Mount Joy Memories" will be the second in a three-part "My Hometown" Series on May 1 at 6 p.m., and Jean Ellis will present a slide show. "Marietta: The Pittsburgh of the East" will be the third part of the series on Monday, May 20, at 6 p.m. Catherine Tucker will talk about what it was like to grow up in Marietta, and Dave Haneman will share a visual presentation of the Lancaster County iron industry from 1845 to 1930. Registration is required for both programs.

A game night for adults will take place on May 6 at 6 p.m. Attendees may bring games.

Closely Knit, a group for avid knitters or those who aspire to knit, will meet at 1 p.m. on May 13. Attendees may knit or crochet individual projects, and no registration is necessary.

The Friends group will meet on May 13 at 6:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.

The Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club will meet on the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, with this month's meeting set for May 18. The club is open to all stitchers, from beginners to experienced, with attendees asked to bring their own supplies.

The book discussion group focused on the classics will discuss "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London on May 20 at 10:30 a.m.; the group's June selection will be "Song of Solomon" by Toni Morrison. The Lit Lovers book discussion group will discuss "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque on May 28 at 6:30 p.m.; the group's June selection will be "The Line Becomes a River" by Franciso Cantu.

Make-It Monday on Wednesday, May 29, at 6 p.m. will be themed "Paint Like a Pro." Participants will paint a scene in the style of artist Bob Ross. All materials will be supplied except for a canvas. Registration is required, and a fee has been set.
