Library Grant Aids Teachers

For the ninth year in a row, Lancaster Public Library, 125 N. Duke St., Lancaster, received a grant from the Renee B. Fisher Foundation, a private foundation located in Green Farms, Conn. The grant, totaling $5,500, will allow the Lancaster Public Library to distribute hundreds of vouchers to teachers in Lancaster city. Teachers use the vouchers to purchase thousands of books and other materials to enrich their classroom libraries. Teachers may redeem their vouchers at the Lancaster Public Library's three annual book sales and the library's two bookstore locations, all operated by the Friends of the Lancaster Public Library.

In 2018, with the foundation's support, Lancaster Public Library provided $4,810 in complimentary books to teachers in the School District of Lancaster and to Head Start teachers with classrooms in Lancaster city. The Friends of the Lancaster Public Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Lancaster Public Library through fundraising activities, new programming, and promoting understanding and appreciation of the library's role in a diverse community.
