McKendree Will Offer Program On Addiction

"Families Helping Families Navigate Resources for Addiction Issues" will be a program offered by McKendree United Methodist Church, Route 74, Airville, on Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the Community Center. Those with someone in their family who has a drug or alcohol addiction will have an opportunity to listen and learn from others who have gone through the same situation.

Leading the discussion will be Alyssa Rohrbaugh, a co-founder of the Not One More - York (NOM), and Jennifer Way, a school counselor at Red Lion Area Junior High School. They will focus on the signs of addiction, as well as who to talk to first, how to approach the subject with the addict, where to go to for help and resources, the use of naloxone, and facilities that support recovery. Free naloxone kits will be available from NOM.

Rohrbaugh and Vickie Glatfelter co-founded NOM in 2014, and the organization provides support for addicts and comfort for families whose loved ones are struggling with addiction or have been lost to overdose, while also advocating for addicts and families needing access to resources.

Way began her career in mental health and substance abuse counseling. She was a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and worked in various outpatient and inpatient settings with children and adolescents. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and is currently working towards her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification.
