In honor of Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12, Educational Resource Development Trust (ERDT) recognizes the women in Lancaster and Chester counties who take the role of exchange student mom every academic year. They open their hearts and homes to teenagers from all over the world through the SHARE! High School Exchange Program.
ERDT/SHARE! is a nonprofit foundation that has been providing host family placement for international high school exchange students since 1980. Designated by the U.S. Department of State to act as the legal sponsor for the students during their stay, ERDT coordinators liaise between the students, volunteer host families, and schools to ensure the best possible experience is had by everyone.
Students come to the program from more than 30 different countries. They choose to stay for an academic semester or year, come with their own spending money, and are insured. They expect to become an active, participating member of their host family, sharing in the fun times as well as helping with the chores.
