A diabetes support group facilitated by a licensed practical nurse from Penn State meets at the center and offers coping mechanisms, barriers, diet support, exercise, and more. Type 1 support will be offered on Tuesday, May 14, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., with Type 2 support set for Tuesday, May 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The center offers chair yoga at various times during the week, instructed by Bernie Zmitrovich. Most poses are done seated in a chair, with some standing postures. Individuals may take part in their first class for free.
On May 14, College of Knowledge: Intro to Hypnosis will be offered at 1 p.m. Space is limited, and people may preregister in the office.
A round of disc golf will be played at Shank Park at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15. The rain date will be Wednesday, May 22. To sign up or obtain more details, readers may contact the office.
The May Social with the New Horizons from Milton Hershey School (MHS) and special guest Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Robert Torres will take place on Friday, May 17, at 11:30 a.m. The New Horizons Jazz Choir will be joined by the MHS dance performance team. Lunch will be pot roast, mashed potatoes, buttered carrots, tossed salad, and apple pie. There is a cost, and reservations are required by May 14.
On Thursday, May 23, a walk will take place at 9 a.m. on the local trail. Participants should meet at the center and should bring water and wear walking shoes.
The 50-Plus Festival at the Hershey Lodge will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28. The event will feature health screenings, entertainment, and giveaways, and individuals may stop by the center for a list of exhibitors and the schedule.
Seniors are invited to volunteer to prepare lunch at Ronald McDonald House at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30. Those interested should sign up in the office.
An oldies dance party has been set for Friday, May 31, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and dancing starting at 6 p.m. The party will feature dinner, dancing, and door prizes. Available for purchase will be meatball sandwiches and hot dogs and sauerkraut, with all sandwiches served with chips; there will also be root beer floats, beverages, and a variety of desserts. Disc jockey Tony Bennett will return to spin tunes for dancing and for listening. There is an admission fee.
Mohler Center will be represented at the Market on Chocolate on Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Attendees are welcome to stop by the Mohler table at the event.
A Blue Angels Experience trip will be offered on May 21, with a 7 a.m. departure from the center. The day will include free time downtown, lunch on one's own, and a cruise into the bay to watch the Blue Angels, elite Navy pilots, on their practice day. The group will return at approximately 7:30 p.m. after a dinner stop. There is a cost.
A trip to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., and Arlington National Cemetery will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1, with departure from the center at 6:30 a.m. and return at approximately 9 p.m. After visiting the museum's three floors of history, the group will eat lunch in the museum cafe and then take a tram tour of the grounds at Arlington National Cemetery with stops at various sites. There is a cost, and registration is required by Monday, July 1.
Christmas With the Philly Pops will be offered on Friday, Dec. 20, with an 8:30 a.m. departure from the center and an approximate 8:30 p.m. return. The group will visit Love Park, with an alternate location selected in the case of inclement weather. Following lunch, the group will go to the Kimmel Center for the Christmas Spectacular, featuring the Philly Pops Festival Chorus, Philadelphia Boys Choir, African Episcopal Church Choir, organist Peter Conte, and vocalist Mandy Gonzalez. There is a cost, and registration is required by Friday, Nov. 1.
