Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a weight-loss support group, will meet on Thursday, May 30 (and every Thursday), at Tel Hai Retirement Community's Garrett Center in Honey Brook. Weigh-in is from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. The first meeting is free to guests. For information, contact Marcia at 484-238-4559.

Breakfast With The Bible

Alan Lindsay, senior warden of the Church of Saint Mary at Calvary in Elverson, will host Breakfast With the Bible on Friday, May 31, at 8:30 a.m. at the Morgantown Coffee House, 4997 N. Twin Valley Road, Elverson.

Attendees should bring a Bible and may enjoy coffee, tea, and/or breakfast. The community is invited to participate.

Community Dinner

St. Peter United Church of Christ, Route 23, Knauertown, invites the public to a community dinner on Friday, May 31, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Program, themed, "SummerQuest," will kick off at the Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road, Honey Brook, on Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. Visitors will be invited to make a UFO craft and to sign up for the reading incentive program.

Strollers Hike

The Barks Community Strollers will hike at Speedwell Forge County Park on Saturday, June 1. The group will meet at 9 a.m. at McDonalds in Womelsdorf, located at the Intersection of routes 419 and 422.

Fundraising Race, Walk

OneRunTogether's Creamery Hustle 5K/10K race and 1-mile fun walk will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Penn State Berks, 1801 Broadcasting Road, Reading. All runners and walkers who register will receive two free scoops of Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream.

Hike

The Elverson Waling Club (EWC) will hike at Marsh Creek State Park in Eagle on Sunday, June 2. EWC will meet at 1:15 p.m. at the parking lot at the end of Chalfont Road in Glenmoore. The GPS address is 197 Chalfont Road, Glenmoore.

Attendees will walk along the lake to the boat docks and return on wooded trails. Rain, drizzle, mist or thunderstorm warnings will cancel the walk. Those who plan to participate are asked to contact Jody Philips, the hike leader, at 610-286-8913.

Yoga, Line Dancing

Living God Lutheran Church, 3200 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, will offer yoga classes for beginners on Sunday, June 2 (and every Sunday through July 14), from 3 to 4 p.m. Participants are asked to wear appropriate exercise gear and bring their own mat.

Line dancing and country dancing lessons will also be offered on Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Lessons are designed for beginner/novice dancers, but there will be more advanced dances for those who have been dancing for some time. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and children are welcome.

Admission to both activities will be free, though attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items that the church will then donate to either the Honey Brook Food Pantry or Twin Valley Food Pantry. For more information, call the church office at 610-273-9383.

TOPS Meeting

Free Meal

As part of the Shepherd's Kitchen meal ministry at Honey Brook Presbyterian Church, 4331 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, a free meal will be offered on Thursday, June 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Strawberry Festival

The Honey Brook Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Strawberry Festival on Friday, June 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. Hot dogs and barbecue sandwiches will be available along with strawberries, cake and ice cream for a donation only. The church is located at 4331 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook.

Chicken Barbecue

Goodwill United Methodist Church, 148 Church Road, Elverson, will have a chicken barbecue dinner on Saturday, June 8. Dinners will be served from noon until 5 p.m. or until sold out. Call 610-286-5875 for further information. Reserved tickets will be held until 4 p.m. only on June 8.

Knit In Public

The Berks County Parks and Recreation Department and Nice Knitters of Muhlenberg Township will hold a sewing circle at the Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Reading, on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in celebration of Knit in Public Day. Each person should bring a project of his or her own on which to work. Knitting and crocheting will be highlighted on this day.

Seniors Meeting

The Honey Brook Senior Citizens will meet at Honey Brook Presbyterian Church, 4331 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, on Thursday, June 13, at 11:30 a.m. The program will be "Games and Fellowship." All seniors are invited to attend and asked to bring picnic food to share and an unwrapped item for the prize table.

Vacation Bible School

Registrations are now being accepted for vacation Bible school (VBS) at Coventryville United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Ridge Road, Pottstown. This year's theme is "ROAR - Life is Wild: God is Good!" The curriculum and guided play are based on an epic African adventure where youths can explore God's goodness and celebrate faith that empowers them through this wildlife.

The program will start on Monday, June 10, and run through Friday, June 14, from 8:45 a.m. to noon. VBS is free.

Having names submitted by Friday, May 31, is suggested to allow time for planning groups and obtaining materials. Drop-ins for the week will also be welcome on June 10.

Flag Retirement

The community is invited to join resident veterans at The Heritage of Green Hills, local Elks and Boy Scouts for a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, Saturday. June 15.

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at The Heritage of Green Hills, 200 Tranquility Lane, Shillington. Boy Scouts will lead the flag-burning ceremony in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code and BSA Handbook. Those who have a flag to be retired may drop it off at The Heritage of Green Hills by Friday, June 14.
