GEARS, in cooperation with the Elizabethtown Area Services for Special Needs, will sponsor this year's Camp Ladybug, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays through Fridays from June 17 to July 26, with no camp on July 4. Camp, which is free to GEARS members, will take place at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park Pavilion 5. The theme is "Journey to Outer Space."
Camp Ladybug is for individuals age 6 and up who are mentally delayed and/or physically challenged. Campers may participate in social and recreational activities, along with special events such as a Lancaster Science Factory visit, swimming at the Masonic Village Brossman Pool, glow bowling, an Everyone's Birthday event, a visit to Northwest EMS, and a talent show.
Do It Yourself Camp, for second- through eighth-graders, will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, June 17 to 21, at the West Donegal Township Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Drive, Elizabethtown. Campers will explore science and crafts, with science projects including creating crystals and rockets and working with electric circuits. The craft projects will include weaving, string art, birdhouses/feeders, toys, and sewing projects.
A father/son adventure will take place on Thursday, June 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laserdome, 2050 Auction Road, Manheim. Sons may attend with their fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other men age 18 and up. Each team's evening will include laser tag, the racing zone, the VR roller coaster, arcade credit, pizza, chips, and unlimited beverages. There is a per-team fee, with an extra fee for an additional child. The registration deadline is Thursday, June 6.
Movies in the Park will take place at the Elizabethtown Community Park amphitheater, Spruce and Washington streets, on select Tuesdays. Movies will begin at dusk, and there will be giveaways every night. There is no admission fee, but refreshments will be sold. The movie lineup is "Trolls," June 11; "Mary Poppins Returns," June 25; "Small Foot," July 9; "Christopher Robin," July 23; and "Incredibles 2," Aug. 13. Rain dates will be June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30, and Aug. 20, respectively.
A track and field camp for students in third through eighth grades will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 17 to 21 at the track at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 600 E. High St. EAHS varsity track coach Derrick McDonald will lead the camp, which is designed to provide an overview of and introduction to all aspects of track and field. Campers will work on distance events, jumping events, throwing events, hurdles, sprints, and relays.
