Library Posts June Schedule

Summer Reading Program registration packs may be picked up. This year's theme is "A Universe of Stories." There will be four levels: Read Aloud (ages 4 and younger), Junior (ages 5 to 9), Tween (ages 10 to 12), and Teen (ages 13 through 19). Children at the Read Aloud and Junior levels will receive a special challenge from Hank the Health Hero of Children's Dental Health Services. Summer Reading Program activities are being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a few afternoon exceptions, and with no programs the week of June 10, due to the new Summer Drama Camp.

Children can also participate in "The Edible Classroom" by growing (and eating) their own healthy foods. Edible Classroom runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning at 9 a.m.

The Pout Pout Fish costume character will join the Thunder on the River Car Show at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. Even though the costume character visit will not last the duration of the car show, Miss Lisa will be reading stories on the terrace throughout the day.

Neill Hartley will portray Charles Lindbergh in "The Spirit of Lindbergh," an adventure based on Lindbergh's historic 1927 flight across the Atlantic Ocean, on Tuesday, June 18, at 10 a.m. in the gym at Park Elementary School, 24 S. Sixth St. This event is designed for children age 7 and older.

Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department naturalist Lisa Sanchez will present "Thirteen Moons on Turtle's Back: A Native American Year" on Thursday, June 20, at 10 a.m. in the gym at Park Elementary School. After reading the book by Joseph Bruchac and Jonathan London, children age 5 and older will learn more about the full moons of the year. Turtle shells and their unique features will also be explored, and children will make a turtle shell calendar craft.

"Miss Maggie Sings a Universe of Songs and Stories," for all ages, will be held on Monday, June 24, at 1 p.m. in the gazebo. In the case of rain or heat, the event will be relocated to the Park Elementary gym. Spaghetti Head Fred will be on hand to celebrate the wonders of the solar system.

"That Fabulous Franklin" by Family Stages, a presentation about Benjamin Franklin, will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. in the Park Elementary gym. Two actors will recreate important moments in Franklin's life.

Ryan Bridge, the "Bugman," will lead a program on Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m. in the Park Elementary gym. Those who choose to will have the opportunity to hold live insects.

The crochet class will be held on June 25 at 6:30 p.m. Participants will continue the Swiffer cover project.

The knitting class will meet at 7 p.m. on June 27.

On Saturday, June 29, the annual antique and craft show will take place in Locust Street Park, and the library will hold its largest book sale of the year. The book sale will be open between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will also include music CDs, DVDs, video games and more.
