As a free service to the community, Rep. Steve Mentzer will host a shredder event on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at Lancaster Airport, 500 Airport Road, Lititz. The event will give residents a chance to guard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed. It is for residents only; paper will not be accepted from businesses or organizations.
Residents will be able to destroy any documents that contain personal information, including birth dates, Social Security numbers, bank account information, and credit card numbers. Acceptable items include all paper, file folders, hanging files, hard drives, notepads, medical records, tax records, and CDs and DVDs.
Individuals may bring up to three file boxes of paper to be shredded. Staples and paper clips need not be removed. All shredding will take place on-site, and the event will be held rain or shine.
For more information, readers may call Mentzer's office at 717-626-1776.
