Educators Complete Diversity Training Program

Leadership York recently recognized educators who completed this year's Leadership for Diverse Schools program. The Leadership for Diverse Schools Class of 2019 included 32 teachers and administrators from 10 school districts. They worked together from September through May, exploring personal bias and learning to interact more effectively with diverse populations of students, parents, and colleagues. The program, presented in partnership with the York Jewish Community Center, is designed to foster understanding, acceptance, and tolerance so the educators can be leaders in helping to build culturally proficient communities within their districts.

Schools or school districts represented and the participants they sponsored include the following: Central York School District, Sue Thomas; Dallastown Area School District, Brittany Brown and Catherine Ross; Dover Area School District, Amy Parker and Shawna Weaver; Eastern York School District, John Forwood and Lindsay Mellon; and Northeastern School District, Amanda Albright, Mike Alessandroni, Beth Baker, Missy Bream, Katie England, Brian Geller, Jessica Heindel, Jessica Hetherington, Casey Kramer, Melissa Lumsargis, TJ McClane, and Kristen O'Keefe.

Also, South Eastern School District, April D'Andrea and Marcie Parks; South Western School District, Steve Haines and Robert Reed; Spring Grove Area School District, Adelle Campbell; York City School District, Christina Greene and Kelly Koerner; and York County School of Technology, Alex DiMarzio, Mary Godin, Valerie Heverly, Mindy Miller, Bill Stoms, and Kelsey Wisman.

Leadership York's mission is to train and support individuals who have the desire to serve the York community in leadership positions. The organization was founded in 1978 and boasts more than 3,800 graduates from its six programs. Those graduates provide leadership to more than 250 nonprofit organizations and serve thousands of constituents in state and local government.
