Kreutz Creek Library (KCL), 66 Walnut Springs Road, Hellam, has announced its schedule of upcoming programs for July. SummerQuest will feature activities and learning experiences for people of all ages. This year's theme is "A Universe of Stories." SummerQuest will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 18.
SummerQuest activities will include "The Gravity of Nature" presented by Ryan the Bug Man on Wednesday, July 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will learn about bugs in space and how they are teaching humans to survive, both today and in the future. There will be opportunities to hold bugs.
"Rocketing Reptiles!" with Jesse Rothacker of Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary will allow attendees to meet and learn about reptiles. The program is set for Monday, July 22, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Jeri Jones will lead "Human Solar System" on Thursday, July 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will create a human model of the solar system.
SummerQuest's Babies and Toddlers Story Times with Miss Felicia, for children from birth through 3 years old with a caregiver, will be offered on Mondays, July 1, 8 and 29, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.
SummerQuest's Babies and Toddlers Kindermusik, for children from birth through 3 years old with a caregiver, will be offered on Monday, July 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.
SummerQuest's Preschool Story Times with Miss Felicia, for children ages 3 to 5, will be offered on Fridays, July 12 and 26, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program will include a story and a craft. Registration is required.
A Special Preschool Story Time with Miss Lisa, for children of preschool age and older, will take place on Friday, July 19, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will hear the story of "Star in the Jar" and make a related craft.
Science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) activities will also be included in SummerQuest.
The library will offer Play at Pen and Ink, for people age 10 and up, on Thursdays, July 18 and 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. Robert Oughton, a local artist, will share a variety of techniques. Participants should bring something to draw on, something to draw with, a legal-size clipboard and samples of their current projects.
The Teen Cupcake Wars championship will take place on Sunday, July 21, at the Red Lion Recreation Center.
The Girl Scouts STEM Mobile will visit the library on Tuesday, July 9. A program for all elementary school-age students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon. All middle and high school-age students in grade six through 12 may attend a program from 12:30 to 2 p.m. At both programs, participants will visit the moon and stars via virtual reality. Registration is required.
The LEGO Builders' Club will hold a meeting on July 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The club is open to children age 6 and up. Participants may take on a provided challenge or build something from their imagination.
SummerQuest will include two programs for tweens ages 9 to 12. The Danger Club will meet on July 9 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tweens may join Miss Jennifer for a new adventure every month. The Library Squad will meet on Tuesday, July 23, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., and attendees will shape library programming for their age group.
As part of SummerQuest, most Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Teen Time will allow teenagers to gather for hangout time and conversation at the library. All teenagers ages 13 to 18 are welcome to participate in the program, which will be held on July 11, 18 and 25.
The Friends of Kreutz Creek Library Branch Support Group will meet on Wednesday, July 24, at 5:30 p.m. The group welcomes fresh ideas and suggestions for activities to be held throughout the year.
The Knitters and Crocheters group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. People of all skill levels are welcome, and group members will help others learn to knit or crochet. Attendees should bring needles and yarn. Knitters and crocheters may bring their current projects to work on and projects for show-and-tell. The group will meet from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on July 2 and 16.
York County Libraries' new technology specialist will visit Kreutz Creek Library on the third Thursday of the month from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. during Tech Time, formerly the Tech Guru program. The next program will take place on July 18. The technology specialist will not only continue to help members with their technology questions, but each month will also showcase at least one digital resource available through the library.
The Green Thumb Garden Club will host a program on July 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Melanie Markowski, NGC garden study consultant, will present "Weeds or Wildflowers - Flowers or Salad Ingredients?" The Garden Club offers a program on the second Thursday of each month.
