The Iron Furnace Group Trail Ride will take place on Sunday, July 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will begin at Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia.
The guided tour of the iron blast furnace complex remains will feature the St. Charles, Henry Clay, and Chickies furnaces and include an authentic iron salamander on the southern end of the trail. In Marietta, where the furnaces were built between 1847 and 1849, the furnaces surround the Musselman-Vesta Iron Furnace Center. At the end of the ride, a guided walking tour of the center and nearby remains from the blast furnace industry will be held.
