Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Quilters Group

The Mission Quilters group at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Ave., Coatesville, will meet on Thursday, June 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. to create quilts that will be donated to Lutheran World Relief and distributed worldwide. Volunteers are invited to help tie the quilt layers together. No experience is needed.

Fundraiser

The Parkesburg Lions Club will host a quarter raffle fundraiser at the Parkesburg VFW on Saturday, June 29. Doors will open at 1p.m.; the event will begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are required.

The cost will include two paddles for people to use to bid on various items. Additional paddles may be purchased for a nominal fee. Those will bring either a dry or canned dog or cat food item will receive a free paddle. Donations will be given to the Octorara Area Food Cupboard.

Attendees should bring quarters to bid on products from vendors, including Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Paparazzi and 3 Pumpkins Plush, in addition to items provided by the Lions Club. There will be a Chinese auction and a 50/25/25. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, July 2, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.

Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. For more information, contact Joyce at 410-375-5629.

Sponsors/Vendors Sought

Community Day in Parkesburg, featuring music, food, fireworks and more, will be held on Saturday, July 6, rain or shine, beginning at 3 p.m. at Minch Park, 400 West St., Parkesburg. All activities will be free, and all proceeds will go to local charities.

Vacation Bible School

Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St., Parkesburg, will offer vacation Bible school (VBS) themed "Mars and Beyond" from Sunday, July 7, to Thursday July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. Dinner will be provided for everyone at 5:15 p.m.

Green Cleaning

A green cleaning program will be presented on Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Parkesburg Library, 105 West St., Parkesburg. Attendees will explore how to clean by using just water, and how to reduce chemicals in their homes and workplaces by using green cleaning products. A few cleaning demonstrations will be featured.
