A girls' volleyball camp for fifth- through eighth-graders will be offered on Monday through Thursday, July 8 to 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the gym at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. EAHS varsity volleyball coaches will instruct the camp, which will focus on the fundamentals of the game, especially passing, hitting and serving. High school volleyball players will assist at the camp. Participants should wear sneakers. Kneepads are optional, but recommended. A T-shirt is included in fee.
Fantastically Fashion Fabulous Camp for youths ages 6 to 13 will take place on Monday through Friday, July 15 to 19, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Attendees will learn how to illustrate and design their own fashion models as well as the models' clothes. At the end of the week, students will have a collection of illlustrations of their own clothing and/or accessory line. Students will be able to work with pencil, colored pencil and marker rendering and will also get to make their own tutu skirt.
GEARS Recreation will offer a Smart Driver driving class for drivers age 50 and older from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, at the GEARS Community Center. This PennDOT-approved, eight-hour classroom refresher course may entitle participants to a discount on their auto insurance. Participants will seek to sharpen driving skills; develop strategies for adjusting to age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time; and learn about the effects of medication on driving performance. Separate fees have been set for AARP members and for nonmembers.
A trip to Fallingwater and the Flight 93 National Memorial will take place on Thursday, July 18. The bus will depart from the EAHS parking lot at 5:30 a.m. Participants will visit two works by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. The group will also visit the Tower of Voices at the Flight 93 National Memorial. The tower is a 93-foot musical instrument holding 40 wind chimes representing the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93. The trip will include a hot luncheon buffet at the Oakhurst Grill.
A trip to New York City will be offered on Saturday, July 20. The bus will depart the EAHS parking lot at 6:15 a.m. arriving in New York City at approximately 10:30 a.m., with a return time of 11 p.m. Attendees will have a day on their own to shop, go sightseeing, meet friends, visit a museum or walk down Fifth Avenue.
