The Dauphin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) has awarded two $1,000 scholarships for 2019. PASR is a service organization composed of retired teachers, counselors, administrators, secretaries, support professionals, custodial staff, and other personnel who are dedicated to serving others in need.
The 2019 recipients are September Nguyen from Central Dauphin East High School and Nakiah Baker from Halifax High School. Both recipients plan to attend Messiah College. September will study elementary and special education, and Nakiah will study secondary English and ESL education.
The Dauphin County chapter's scholarship committee distributed scholarship information to each public high school in Dauphin County. Guidance counselors submitted the required documents for qualified students who are pursuing careers in the field of education. Scholarship applications were to meet the following criteria: academic achievement, leadership, service to others, and financial need. High school transcripts, SAT scores, vitae, a personal essay, and letters of recommendation were submitted. After much consideration, the committee selected September and Nakiah as the scholarship recipients.
