Heritage Center Program Scheduled

The Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley (HSCV) will host an all-day program at the Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Reading, on Wednesday, July 24. The Heritage Center features the 204-foot 1862 Red Bridge, the Melcher Grist Mill, the 1774 Reeser Farm House, the Heister Canal Center, the site of the old Union Canal along the Tulpehocken Creek, and the 1882 Gruber Wagon Works, which is a 19th-century factory all laid out and ready for work on horse-drawn wagons. Tour participants will meet at 9 a.m. at the distelfink at the center's entrance.

There will be a cost per person, which includes a guided tour of the Heritage Center, lunch with beverages, and a contribution to HSCV. A lecture on the early Pennsylvania canal system will be delivered during lunch served in the Heister Canal Center.
