UZRC Dedicates Expansion

United Zion Retirement Community (UZRC) dedicated its expanded Healthcare Center and 10 new apartments on June 7. The expanded Healthcare Center now is set up in the neighborhood model, where several rooms are situated around a common living and dining space. The renovation added four dining rooms, several sitting areas and a wraparound sunporch. All rooms were converted to private rooms. The Healthcare Center decor incorporates soft fabrics, plank floors and fireplaces.

Prior to the ceremony, guests were offered tours of the remodeled Healthcare Center. The ceremony started with vocal music from the United Zion Quartet, which consists of Mary and Glenn Snyder and Jim and Rosene Garman. The performance was followed by remarks from CEO Sue Verdegem.

Verdegem noted that the new dining rooms allow for smaller numbers of residents in each dining room to create a family atmosphere. She also said several new common living and activity spaces will allow for smaller group activities. She thanked residents and employees for their support during the construction as well as the architects, engineers, construction workers and financiers.

Chaplain Ethan Levengood recalled the 115-year history of UZRC and its founders' start in giving a home to those without one. He then gave a prayer, which included Psalm 127:1. Guests gathered afterward for light refreshments.

UZRC is a Life Plan Community offering independent residential living cottages and apartments, personal care services, and nursing care for long-term care and short-term rehabilitation. It is located at 722 Furnace Hills Pike, just north of downtown Lititz.
