The Joseph T. Simpson Library in Mechanicsburg has a special opportunity for people who want to invest in local students: the "Adopt a Summer Learner" campaign. For a set fee, literacy advocates and other community-minded individuals can adopt a child or teenager to participate in the Summer Learning Program.
Summer Learning at the library is an annual tradition featuring literacy-based programs and performers, books and media materials to borrow, and reading incentives for children. The program is intended to instill a love of reading in children, helping them to become better readers and ultimately lifelong learners. In addition to borrowing library materials over the summer, participants have an opportunity to attend educational and recreational programs and complete a variety of activities at home or in the community to earn incentive prizes.
