Museum Plans Artillery Demonstrations

The National Civil War Museum, 1 Lincoln Circle at Reservoir Park, Harrisburg, will host Thompson's Battery and Cooper's Battery for a full weekend of artillery demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28. The events will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Up to six cannons will be on the flat top behind the museum, weather and ground conditions permitting. Re-enactors will be available to answer visitors' questions and show how the firing process works in battle.

The event will include demonstrations of muskets, a Parrott rifle, and the 3-inch ordnance rifle. A section maneuver demonstration will be presented on Saturday. On both days, events will conclude with a battery maneuver demonstration, featuring battery fire from all six guns. Both Thompson's Battery and Cooper's Battery will present in the demonstration, which will take place at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday and 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.
