Four tournaments will be held at the Elizabethtown Fair in 2019. These events will be the Cornhole Tournament, a Horseshoe Pitch Tournament, a Buckshot Tournament, and a Chess Tournament. There is an entry fee to participate.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m., the inaugural Cornhole Tournament for youths ages 12 to 17 will take place. The tournament will be limited to 32 teams of two people each. The Horseshoe Pitch Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. Several divisions will be offered, including men's, women's, youth, and seniors. The youth division will include youths up to and including age 18. Senior singles will include men and women age 65 and older. Up to four double elimination horseshoe tournaments will be held. Horseshoes will be supplied, or shooters may use their own shoes, if desired. National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) rules will apply, except as specified by fair officials. The Buckshot Tournament is open to youths and adults. The youth division will include youths ages 6 to 18. The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Aug. 24 on stage 2. For more information, readers may call Mike at 570-242-5658.
The Chess Tournament will be held in Myer Hall. There will be three divisions: Child, for those age 12 and under; Youth, for those ages 13 to 18; and Open. The children will begin play on Wednesday, Aug. 21; the youths will compete on Thursday, Aug. 22; and adults will compete on Friday, Aug. 23. All divisions will begin play at 6 p.m. The tournament will follow United Chess Federation (USCF) rules. Regulation boards, pieces, and clocks will be provided. Readers may preregister by mail or bring registrations to the fair office on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
