Run4Sam Road Race Scheduled

Aug 18, 2019 - 9:30 am

The 12th annual Run4Sam 4-mile/10K race will take place on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Gring's Mill Recreation Area, 2141 Tulpehocken Road, Wyomissing. All participants can register on the day of the race beginning at 8 a.m. The 4-mile and 10K races will begin at 9:30 a.m., the 2-mile walk will start at 9:45 a.m., and the children's 12-and-under fun run/walk (about 1,600 feet) will begin following the race.

This annual event benefits the Samuel Brooklyn Reed Memorial Scholarship, which is managed by the Berks County Community Foundation. The scholarship was established in honor of Reed, a former Schuylkill Valley High School cross-country runner whose life was taken in a 2007 hit-and-run by a drunk driver while Reed was attending the University of Pittsburgh.

In addition to the scholarship awards granted each year, the run gives back to the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department. Since the first race in 2008, proceeds from this race have been donated to build new equipment at Gring's Mill, provide tools for park rangers, and provide flora to beautify the park system and trails.

Preregistration is available for teams of five or more for a discount on race entry fees and opportunities to win team prizes. All individuals participating will receive Run4Sam T-shirts while supplies last, and all children will receive a goodie bag. There will be refreshments, door prizes, awards for winning runners, and Run4Sam merchandise for sale.

The race application and directions to the park can be found at http://www.run4sam.net. Questions can be directed to Run4Sam@comcast.net. More information can also be found at the Run4Sam Facebook page.
