"Hospital Ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20): Missions of Hope and Healing" will be presented on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. Donna Haase will present information about the USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), what it is equipped with, its capabilities, and its deployment history. Registration for this Adult Friends program will begin on Thursday, Aug. 8.
Poetry in Motion, a Red Sneakers Productions event, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. Anthony Cascio will combine acting, mime, vocal gymnastics, humor, audience participation, and a steamer trunk full of costumes, puppets, and props to allow students to encounter poetry as an engaging and relevant art form. Registration is not required for this Friends children's program.
Nutrition for Kids will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. Students from the Penn State College of Medicine will show how to make sure childrem and the whole family are getting the proper nutrition they need to be as healthy as possible. Registration for this adult library program will begin on Sunday, Aug. 18.
The children's department is preparing for the fall lineup of Cruise Into Kindergarten Programs for early childhood literacy. This includes Books and Babies; 1, 2, Whee!; Sensory 1, 2, Whee!; Storytime; and Play Day for Families. Programs will begin on Monday, Sept. 9. Lego Club and Second Saturday return in early September, and registration for the Girls Who Code program, which teaches computer science to girls in grades six through 12, will begin on Monday, Aug. 26.
Adult enrichment classes will begin with a drop-in card making class series on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m. Registration for all classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 12, and must be done at the library unless otherwise noted.
"My Friendship With Fred Rogers" will be presented on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. Tim Madigan, who wrote a book about Rogers, titled "I'm Proud of You," will speak. Books will be sold and signed at the event. Registration for this adult library program will begin on Aug. 22.
A U.S. Chess Federation-rated chess tournament is slated for Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Community blood drives are scheduled for Mondays, Aug. 26 and Sept. 23, from 3 to 5 p.m. Attendees must bring a photo ID to donate.
