GEARS Posts Program Slate

GEARS has posted its upcoming programs and activities. Unless otherwise noted, separate fees have been set for GEARS members and for nonmembers. For more information or to register, readers may visit http://www.getintogears.org or call the GEARS office at 717-367-0355.

Yoga classes will be offered for people age 14 and up on Thursdays from Sept. 5 to Dec. 12 (except Oct. 17 and Nov. 28) at the Masonic Village Carpenter Chapel, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown. Classes will be taught by Michelle Pelna. Gentle/Beginner Yoga will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., preceded by Vinyasa Yoga from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Buns, Guns and Cardio for people age 14 and up will take place on Thursdays from Sept. 5 to Nov. 21 (except Oct. 17) at the Masonic Village Memorial Hall gym. Dumbbells, step boxes and body weight will be used. Cheryl Dohner, a certified personal trainer, will instruct.

A Pokemon/YuGiOh/Buddyfight League for children and youths in grades one through 10 will be held on Thursdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in GEARS Recreation Room 2, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Attendees will bring their decks and battle other opponents, finding ways to improve their skills and decks.

Modern Western Square Dance will be an adult class on Mondays from Sept. 9 to Dec. 2 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Masonic Village Roosevelt Assembly Room. No experience is necessary, and Dave Black will instruct.

Zumba Gold will be offered on Mondays from Sept. 9 to Oct. 28 (except Oct. 14) from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Masonic Village Memorial Hall Gym. This aerobics-type class, part dance and part fitness, is based primarily on Latin American and international-style music. Judy McMillen, a licensed Zumba Gold instructor, will lead the class.

GEARS is accepting team registration for its Fall Coed Slow-Pitch Softball League. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 3. League play will be Mondays through Fridays from Sept. 9 to mid-November from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Each team will play a 10-game schedule with playoffs. There is a per-team entry fee.

Teams are also sought for GEARS' fall 2019 Coed Sixes Volleyball League, scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 9 and conclude in early November. Teams interested in playing in this league should submit a team roster and registration fee no later than Sept. 3 to be included in the league schedule. Games will be on Mondays between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. at the Daubert Gym, GEARS Community Center gym, and Elizabethtown Area Middle School gym. The league is a 10-match season with playoffs. Rosters must have between six and 15 players, and teams must have two females on the court at all times.

Hatha Flow Yoga, a multi-level yoga class for people age 14 and up, will take place on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from Sept. 9 to Oct. 16 from 6 to 7 p.m. in Carpenter Chapel at Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown. The class, taught by certified instructor Charla Lorenzen, incorporates seated and standing yoga poses, conscious breathing, and meditative focus to foster strength, flexibility, and relaxation. Participants should wear layers of comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Spin and Sculpt, a 10-week session, will be offered to people of all fitness levels age 16 and up on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 10 to Nov. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. in GEARS Recreation Room 1, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. The 45-minute indoor cycling class will also include 15 minutes of toning and core work. Participants should bring a workout towel and water.

POUND, a cardio jam session, will be offered by certified instructor Courtney Lesnick to people age 14 and up on Tuesdays, Sept. 10 to Oct. 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall gym at Masonic Village. Using Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercise, the class offers a full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Participants should bring a yoga mat.

Power Yoga, for people age 16 and up, has been set for Tuesdays, Sept. 10 to Dec. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Carpenter Chapel at Masonic Village. It focuses on strength, balance, and flexibility for beginner and advanced yoga students.
