The American Cancer Society (ACS) will hold Bark For Life, a canine-centered event to fight cancer, on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Conestoga Pines Pool, 200 Arthur E. Morris Parkway, Lancaster. The free, activity-filled program will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will partner with the Lancaster Rec Center's Pooches in the Pool event, which will begin at 11 a.m. In the case of rain, the event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Bark For Life, named after the ACS Relay For Life, welcomes dogs and their owners. The event honors the caregiving qualities of pets, celebrates human and canine cancer survivors, and raises funds to end cancer through research, education, advocacy, and patient services.

The gates will open for Bark For Life at 9:30 a.m., with opening ceremonies starting at 10 a.m. Following will be games, contests, giveaways, and demonstrations. Contests will include Strut Your Mutt, Bark's Got Talent, a costume contest, dog limbo, balance the biscuit, and kissing competitions. Vendors, a lure course, and food trucks specializing in both human and canine fare will be available throughout the day. All dogs must be spayed or neutered, and owners must provide proof of rabies vaccination.

Attendance at the event is free, but participants can preregister for a set donation. Those who preregister will receive a Bark For Life T-shirt for the human participant and a Bark For Life bandana and goodie bag for the canine participant. The items will be available at the gate for a donation while supplies last. For more information and to preregister, readers may visit http://www.relayforlife.org/barklancasterpa.
