York Catholic High School students have been recognized for their scores on the national Advanced Placement (AP) exams for high school students are in and have excelled.
AP courses offer high school students college-level rigor, ending in May with a national exam. AP courses are offered through College Board, and exams are four hours in length. Exams are graded on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 the lowest grade possible and 5 the highest grade possible. Many colleges and universities accept a score of 3 or higher for college credit.
York Catholic offers AP courses in English, calculus, chemistry, biology, and U.S. history. Last spring, 47 York Catholic students took the AP exams and achieved a 98 percent pass rate of a 3 or higher. Of the students who took the exams, 40 percent scored a 5, 35 percent scored a 4, and 23 percent scored a 3.
AP Scholars with Distinction are students who earn scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. Luke Motter, a graduate of the Class of 2019, was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Motter is currently a student at Penn State University. AP Scholars with Honors are students who earn scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams. The following graduates from the Class of 2019 have been recognized as AP Scholars with Honors: Christian Gervasi, York College of Pennsylvania, and Sarah Reed, LaSalle University. AP Scholars are students who earn scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. The following graduates from the Class of 2019 have been recognized as AP Scholars: Gianni Hill, University of Pennsylvania; Claire Laux, The Catholic University of America; and Grace Reed, St. Joseph's University.
