Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 3131 Columbia Ave., will observe its 60th anniversary with a special worship service and global mission service project on Sunday, Sept. 8.
The event will begin with worship at 9:30 a.m. Following the worship service, the congregation will participate in a special service project. Photographs, documents and other memorabilia will be displayed.
During its formative years, the congregation met at the former Hambright Elementary School on Columbia Avenue. After purchasing the property at its current site, the congregation worshiped in one of two homes that were on the property. The first worship building was built in 1964, and a classroom wing was added in 1978. The current worship space opened in 2001.
Holy Spirit is a congregation of the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
