Richard F. Mulá, founder and principal of Richard F. Mulá Architects LLC, and Mulá Architects utilized the principle of adaptive reuse, the process of taking an old building or site and reusing it for a purpose other than what it was designed for, for a project for Rhoads Energy. In November, a warehouse owned by Rhoads Energy for the past four years will become the site of the Lancaster company's new headquarters.
The goal of Mulá Architects was to create a new workspace for clients, associates, and the community, explained Mulá. The new 16,000-square-foot space almost doubles the current Rhoads Energy Prince Street headquarters. The workspace will include a hands-on training facility for the company's HVAC technicians, a display room to showcase products, a new conference space, and four additional bays for parking.
The design aimed to knit together the textures of the old building combined with current technology and open features and to offer room for growth as the company adds employees and positions.
Mulá Architects worked with Benchmark Construction Inc., which has already started the interior demolition; Providence Engineering; and ELA Group Inc.
Celebrating two decades, Mulá Architects has offices in Lancaster and York. For more information, readers may visit http://www.mula-architects.com.
