Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Yard Sale

A community yard sale will be held at the Oxford Area Senior Center, 12 E. Locust St., Oxford, on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Yard sale vendors interested in renting a space may contact Jane Freeman at 610-932-5244 or oxsrctr@zoominternet.net.

Historical Society

The Sadsbury Township Historical Society will meet on Monday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Sadsbury Township Municipal Building, 2920 Lincoln Highway, Sadsburyville. Filmmaker Sarah Alderman will present her documentary "Bypassed: The Coatesville Project." Visitors are welcome.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served following the program. For more information, call 717-442-9240.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.

Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. For more information, contact Joyce at 410-375-5629.

OAHA Meeting

The Oxford Area Historical Association (OAHA) will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Masonic Lodge Hall, 245 N. Third St., Oxford. Attendees should use the side entrance.

The program will be "The Story of Eldreth Pottery" by guest speaker Dave Eldreth, who founded and established Eldreth Pottery in Oxford in 1976. The program is free and light refreshments will be served.

GriefShare

GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a loved one, will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg. Meetings will be held every Tuesday through Oct. 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. The meetings are facilitated by Paul and Twila Ranck.

GriefShare is a nondenominational group that features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. The topic for the meeting on Sept. 10 will be "Why?" The session will demonstrate that God wants people to share their feelings with Him, why being honest with God is an expression of faith and what God has to say about "why" question.

Quilt Guild

Calico Cutters Quilt Guild (CCQG) will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Goshen Fire Company, 1320 Park Ave., West Chester. This month, Barbara Yates Beasley will share a behind the scenes, sometimes humorous look at her colorful menagerie in a program titled "Animals with Attitude: Lions, Llamas, Bears! Oh My!" There will be a fee for guests.

In addition to a monthly program, CCQG has a Charity of the Month, Block of the Month a Show and Tell and more. This month, the group will collect pillowcases for Ryan's Case for Smiles. Members also create Comfort Quilts and Veterans' Quilts for donation.

Retirement Program

"Time Matters: A Women's Retirement Outlook" will be presented on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at the Parkesburg Library.

The program is specifically tailored for women who are getting ready for or have recently transitioned to retirement. Attendees will learn retirement income strategies, including perspectives around Social Security and making retirement savings last.

Vendors Wanted

Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School, 2875 West Manor Road, West Brandywine, is looking for crafters and vendors for its craft/vendor show on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Crafters and vendors interested in reserving a spot for the event may request an application by forwarding their information to Kirstin Wentz McElroy at pjp2craft@gmail.com. Limited spaces are still available on a first-come first-serve basis.
